This week, Year 1 has been exploring Leaf by Sandra Dieckmann and focusing on the setting within the book. When the children entered the classroom, the lights were dimmed, Arctic wind sounds were playing, and cotton wool had been scattered around to represent snow. This helped to create an immersive environment and allowed the children to step into the world of the story.  The children had a lovely discussion, linking their ideas to their senses. They talked about what they could see, hear, and feel in the Arctic setting, and how the environment might make the characters feel. It was fantastic to see them so engaged and using rich vocabulary to describe the scene.
