Our Science topic this half term is Earth and Space. We were able to enjoy the latest warmer and sunnier weather and go outside to the playground to set out our own version of the solar system. Earth is known as being 1 Astronomical Unit away from the Sun, so we used this as 1 metre. Therefore, on the scale, Mercury was 40 cm away from the Sun, Venus 70cm, and Mars one and a half meters. Continuing out to the gas giants, we found Jupiter at 5.2 metres, then Saturn at 9.6m, Uranus at 19.2 metres and finally Neptune at 30 metres away.   Perhaps you can use this scale at home, so if you draw a picture of the Solar System you could use centimetre. (0.4cm for Mercury, 1cm for Earth and 30cm for Neptune!)
