This week in English, we introduced our new core text, The Gruffalo. To engage the children and encourage curiosity about the story, I presented them with a mystery envelope containing clues from the text, including owl feathers, claws, sharp teeth, nuts, and a snake.
The children carefully examined each item and discussed what the clues might tell us about the story. Using their observations, they wrote prediction paragraphs using a point and evidence structure, explaining what they thought the story might be about and supporting their ideas with evidence from the clues provided. The children demonstrated excellent inference skills and used thoughtful reasoning to justify their predictions.
