Starting our new half term with lots of drama and role play, Year 5 children have been using their acting skills in RE, exploring the ideas behind freedom and responsibility. In our lesson, we role-played a story in which a brother and sister wanted to go and buy their mum a pair of earrings for her birthday. They had saved up their pocket money for six weeks, and on their bus journey home after school they stopped at the jewellery shop. However, it was closed so they went to find another jeweler’s. After a long time, they were successful but unfortunately this meant that they were very late getting home.

Meanwhile, the mum was wondering where they were and phoned school and was very worried when the school told them that her children had gone home.

The children in Year 5 then acted out what they thought would happen when the children got home. This raised lots of questions about being responsible, even when having good intentions.
