SEN Awareness Week

Everyone's brain is different.
This week we celebrated SEN Awareness Week throughout the school. Our theme was "Everyone's brain is different", and the key message for the children was that everyone needs some help to learn, not just some of us.
In class, children learnt that our brains are a bit like phones: we all have different "apps", or things we're good at, and some of us need different things to help us learn, like a quiet space, pictures or a bit more time. We talked about how fair doesn't always mean the same, and that being different never means being less. We spoke about God making each of us in his image, with our own special gifts.
Every child made a star for our whole school. The "Every star shines differently" display in the hall, finishing with the sentence "I learn best when …". Please come and have a look when you're next in school!
In PE, the children worked together to adapt games they already know, changing the space, rules, equipment or teams, so that a friend with a disability could join in. They came up with some brilliant ideas.
