As part of our Black History Month celebrations, Year 6 have been exploring the life and work of renowned children's author Malorie Blackman through both English and Art.  This week in Art, the children focused on Blackman's powerful themes of racism, prejudice, social division, and identity.  Drawing inspiration from the impactful messages in her books, pupils worked collaboratively to build a rich vocabulary word bank of key terms and ideas linked to her writing.  Using this vocabulary, students decorated book-shaped templates, creatively cutting out and arranging letters of their chosen words to produce visually striking designs.  These symbolic 'books' represent both Blackman's literary legacy and the important themes she explores.
