In today’s English lesson, the children worked collaboratively to build their vocabulary through a “vocabulary harvesting” activity. In small groups, pupils read a selected story and identified interesting or unfamiliar words as they encountered them. Together, they discussed the possible meanings of these words using the context of the story to guide their understanding. Each group then recorded the vocabulary they had chosen and wrote their own definitions in their own words, showing their developing understanding of word meaning and use. The activity encouraged teamwork, discussion, and deeper engagement with the text, while also helping to extend and strengthen pupils’ vocabulary knowledge.
