Year 6 pupils took part in an engaging road safety workshop designed to help them understand how to stay safe when travelling as pedestrians or cyclists. The session included a series of practical obstacle courses that challenged the children to use their awareness, balance and decision-making skills in realistic scenarios.
One of the key activities involved completing an obstacle course while using a device, demonstrating how distractions, such as texting, listening to music, or looking at a screen—can significantly reduce awareness of surroundings. Pupils quickly noticed how much harder it was to focus, react to hazards, and move safely when their attention was divided.
Through hands-on experience and group discussion, the children learnt the importance of staying alert, keeping devices away when near roads, and making safe choices to protect themselves and others.
