Year 6 got active in Science this week as they investigated the effect of exercise on heart rate. The children began by carefully measuring their resting heart rate before taking part in a range of physical activities. After each exercise, they measured their heart rate again to see how their bodies responded to movement.

The lesson encouraged both practical skills and scientific discussion. Pupils compared their results and talked about the changes they observed, with many noting clear differences between activities. Some children discovered that exercises involving jumping caused their heart rate to increase much more than other movements. This hands-on investigation helped pupils understand how exercise affects the body and developed their ability to collect, record and interpret scientific data.
