In Science, children are learning about evolution and inheritance. Through class discussion, pupils developed an understanding that inheritance refers to features or traits passed down from parents to offspring, whilst characteristics can include physical features, personalities and skills.
Children then identified and reflected on their own characteristics before comparing these with those of their parents. They discussed a range of inherited physical characteristics such as eye colour, hair colour and height, alongside similarities in personality traits, interests and talents. Pupils enjoyed making personal connections to the learning and were able to recognise how individuals can share characteristics with family members whilst still being unique.
