Friday 29th November

In Computing, Year 1 began an exciting introduction to programming and algorithms. The lesson was split into two activities. First, the children worked in pairs to practice giving and following instructions. One partner took on the role of the programmer, using key terms like turn left, turn right, move forward, and move backward to guide their partner, who acted as the robot. This helped the children understand how precise instructions are needed in programming.

In the second activity, the children applied these skills to a fun treasure map challenge. They created algorithms to program a toy car to reach a specific destination on the map. After writing their algorithms, they tested them and made corrections (debugging) if the car didn’t reach its goal. This hands-on approach helps the children develop problem-solving skills and a better understanding of how programming works.
